Common Hair Loss Treatments


You can probably use items you already have on hand to try some of the more common remedies at home. First, there’s massage. Rub your scalp for just a couple of minutes a day. You can try using coconut or palm oil but, if you don’t want to get your hair greasy, you can just massage the scalp with your bare fingertips (not nails).

Measure (or weigh) 250 g of mustard oil and place in a small saucepan. Weigh 100 g of henna leaves, and place them in the same pan. Stir the oil and leaves together, mixing well. Place the pan on the stove. Turn the stove on and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir the mixture thoroughly and remove from the stove. Allow to cool. Massage the oil mixture into your scalp and areas of hair loss. Do not rinse the oil out until the next time you wash your hair.

Pour some olive oil into a pot and warm it up just a little. Shampoo your hair with a natural shampoo and then apply the olive oil to your damp strands. The heat will allow the oil to penetrate the strands. Leave it on at least one hour and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Consuming a nutritious and healthy diet is also very important to prevent hair loss. One should stay away from a high fat diet and include more of fruits, vegetables (green leafy), nuts, seeds, milk, wheat germ, yeast, vegetable oil, honey, etc., in one’s diet. It is also necessary to take mineral supplements like zinc, calcium and magnesium for strong and healthy hair.

Yemeni med: Soak fenugreek (Hilba) in deep pot of water throughout the night. Massage the liquid into the scalp and wrap with a cloth for 3 hours. Repeat everyday for 1 month. Plain abstinence from alcohol, smoking and recreational drugs is often not enough to protect us from the toxins all around us. Toxins such as chlorine, pesticides, second-hand smoke, traffic exhaust fumes, certain cosmetics and germs in the air infiltrate the body systems and place an enormous load on our metabolic systems. This causes general health to deteriorate and one of the symptoms is often hair loss. Various detoxification therapies are now available to us, but caution should govern their use.

Protein is required by all human beings and it serves to the body in many ways. Protein is supplied by milk, buttermilk, yogurt, soyabean, eggs, cheese, meat and fish. Normally 60 grams is required for women, between 80 to 90 grams for men and 80 to 100 grams of protein for adolescent boys and girls.
